First Cuckoo of the Year Over Tsukudajima Island after Ando Hiroshige |
Framed and Matted Japanese Print after Hiroshige |
---|---|
Original Japanese print in colors on tan paper after Ando Hiroshige. Titled The First Cuckoo of the Year over Tsukudajima Island, the image shows a cuckoo bird flying across the sky over a fishing village. This print was created in the 1920-30’s after an original 19th century print by Ando Hiroshige. The publishers stamp (Adachi) is on the back. This print was inspected prior to framing by an expert in Japanese art. He said the lack of baren marks on the back were strong evidence that it was printed from zinc plates as opposed to wood blocks. (There would be significantly more marks on the back from the baren if it was a woodblock print.) He also was impressed with the fidelity of the colors to the original. “Spot on” were his exact words.
