Bartet et Mounet-Sully dans Antigone
Original crayon and spatter lithograph with scraper in brown and black ink on wove paper by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec from 1893. Titled Bartet et Mounet-Sully, dans Antigone, this work shows the actors Julia Bartet and Jean Mounet-Sully on stage performing in a drama by Sophocles called Antigone. From the only edition of 65 impressions, based on the second state. Signed in the plate with Lautrec’s monogram upper right, and hand stamped in red with Lautrec’s monogram lower right. Excellent condition. No significant fading to the black or brown ink, or the red ink stamp. The lithograph was professionally cleaned and de-adicified and old tape was removed from the top rear edge. Small discolored wood flake in paper ~3 inches in diagonally from lower right corner. Dramatically framed in a decades old black wood and gold molding. Frame in very good condition with a few touch ups to the gold at outside rear corners. Finished with new taupe linen matte and black inner matte outlining the image. Set behind a new UV-resistant acrylic cover.
