Original etching in black ink on Rives BFK paper by Pablo Picasso. Plate 107 from Series 156. Titled Degas Viewing Partially Dressed Prostitutes in Bloch’s catalogue raisonne, the image shows Degas on the right looking at three partially clothed women at the left. Signed lower right with the Picasso estate signature stamp. Numbered 45/50 in pencil lower right by the publisher. Dated in the plate in reverse 4/2/71 lower left in the image.
A wonderful combination of caricature (Degas) and Picasso’s classic cubism (the Women) and a very large etching. This piece could easily be a centerpiece of a modern art collection. Total edition size is 50 numbered (regular edition) and 18 proofs for the artist and publisher. The plates were completed and proofed in 1971, about 2 years before Picasso died. The etchings were printed before 1975 and published in 1978. Reference: Bloch, Picasso Project: Catalogue of the Printed Graphic Works, Volume 4, Revised Edition from 2004, 1963, p. 70. (Picasso did not title the work himself; it was titled by the compilers of the catalogue raisonne.)
